September's featured small business is the new The Hog and The Hen. They just opened on September 1st in downtown Grand Junction and are a market, deli, and liquor store.
Cooper and Mary Hall were tossing around ideas of what type of business venture they wanted to start in December of last year, and around the same time, City Market closed, and they knew their idea of a market would be a great one!
The name was created by Mary's uncle. It refers to an old folklore that sailors would get a pig and a chicken tattooed on their feet. This represented protection against growing and never starving. The couple thought it was a neat idea and ran with it!
